About 20 locomotives converged on the city for the Streamliners event to celebrate 65 years of streamlined locomotives in Australia.
It attracted rail enthusiasts and those longing for a dose of nostalgia in celebrating first generation of diesels that were built in Australia.
One of the main organisers of the event Bernie Baker said Goulburn is an ideal place to hold such events.
“It is significant in rail history - it was a railway town and it still has such a large roundhouse and turntable - it makes it the perfect place to do this sort of thing - it is not far from Sydney,” Mr Baker said.
“We did amazingly well yesterday considering the rain. We have 20 engines from all over Australia and the significance of these trains is that they were our first diesel locomotive.
“The GM 1 was built 1951. Prior to these diesel engines it was steam trains. This was the introduction of the diesel area.
“The rail industry is forever revolving, but somehow through all of that we have managed to keep a few of these locos and many of these engines are still hauling goods trains in western NSW to earn a dollar.”
Locomotives in an array of colours are on display and children can sit in the driver’s seat. The Rail Heritage Centre is on Braidwood Rd.
