It’s an opportunistic crime – people unfortunately in most cases have left their doors unlocked.
I’ve spoken about it several times but we need to get the message across that there’s a high likelihood that you’ll be the victim of theft if you do leave your cars unlocked.
On a positive note, we’ve made several arrests recently related to such crimes and we’re hoping that will have a positive effect and reduce occurrence of those incidents. We do however need the community’s assistance.
These people will go along the street and check car after car and see if the doors are open and if they are they’ll strike. Also, don’t leave valuables in the car, especially in plain sight.
There have also been people stealing pot plants throughout the Southern Highlands. Keep a lookout for anyone suspicious. They are being taken from people’s front yards, some even from verandahs. They are also taking bikes and other property. I urge the community to keep a look out and call the local station or Crime Stoppers if you see anything unusual.
Finally, this week saw an imbecile with anger management issues involved in a road rage incident in Mittagong.
We put road safety messages out nearly every week to try and tell people to drive responsibly but this guy clearly had issues he needs to sort out.
I’ve travelled through South East Asia where the rules are completely out of control but even there in those conditions I’ve never seen any road rage, even if traffic is outrageous. We have a controlled traffic system here and yet road rage is quite common.
If they can be that understanding in the traffic chaos of South East Asia, surely we can be courteous, understanding and have a bit of patience among drivers here. Where’s the humanity? In the big scheme of things no one wants to be involved in any negative situation.
Until next week...
