Uber is preparing to launch in Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama on Thursday, after those areas had appeared on the Uber app for months, which the company said was a method to gauge the interest in the region.
“We've been blown away by the community response to the news of our launch in Wollongong,” an Uber spokesperson said.
“It's clear regional communities right across NSW are hungry for more transport options and a flexible way to earn income.”
While there is no immediate plan to extend the service further south, it may become a possibility in the future.
“While our immediate focus is getting our Wollongong operation up and running, we’ll keep a close eye on demand for ridesharing in the Shoalhaven,” the Uber spokesperson said.
