On Saturday June 24, she was awarded Most Valuable Player for her team in the ACT Monaro Junior Encouragement Golf Pennants. The team placed fourth in the competition after making the semi finals.
The presentation was held at the Gold Creek Country Club. Webb won seven of her eight matches and helped the team to the semi finals in March .
There were eight teams in the tournament and players could have other juniors fill in for them if they were unavailable. During the competition she had to choose between golf and her sister's 18th birthday.
They had organised for a player from another club to fill in. However, when it came to the Sunday, that player's team was short. Not wanting to see her team disadvantaged, Webb agreed to play. Fortunately her sister was understanding, as the family is quite close and supportive of each other. They are also very much team players. The sisters are keen soccer players in MBK’s all-age women’s side, which usually plays on Saturdays, dovetailing in nicely with Webb’s golf.
Earlier this year Webb competed in the Combined High Schools Golf Championships in Forster and won the nett championship in her division.
“It was a little bit of a disappointment,” Webb said. “There were only two of us in our division and the other girl won the gross championship. It would have been better had there been more competitors.”
The 14-year-old says her golf is not as good as it has been in past years, but puts it down in part at least to the rate at which she is growing. She has gained a considerable amount of height and consequently her clubs are not as well matched to her as they could be and she is having to adjust to her growth.
“I love playing golf and being a member of the Tully Park Club,” she said. “It is a friendly club with a casual feel to it and most welcoming.
“Russell Schmitt has been my coach ever since I started playing and he even goes out of his way to transport Lachlan Bill and me to matches when we play over in Canberra in the pennants competition.”
