Two years ago she was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease.
Crohn’s Disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects the lining of the digestive tract.
In February this year Ameliya had a bowel bowel resection and appendectomy.
Her mother Bree said it had been difficult making the adjustment and Ameliya had been in and out of hospital during that time.
But Highlands driver Andy Harris has found a way to put a big grin on her face.
Ameliya will get to experience what it’s like in a race car later this month at a Trackshool day down at Wakefield Park.
Andy, who races in the Mazda MX 5 Cup regularly competes at the Goulburn track.
Bree and Andy’s father Russell know each other through work and Russell offered to give Ameliya a ride in the car to lift her spirits.
“She’s looking forward to going really fast,” Bree said.
“It’ll do her the world of good.”
No stranger to speed, Bree said Ameliya used to ride a Pee Wee 50 motorbike as a child.
Ameliya hoped to go earlier the year but was unable to.
She has seen Andy’s car on the internet but has yet to get a close up look.
Andy said he was glad to be able to help put a smile on Ameliya’s face.
“If this is all it takes to put a smile on her face, it’s my privilege to do that,” he said.
“I’d love to do more of this.”
Ameliya will get the chance to hit the track on July 29.
