On Saturday, ex-service personnel including Vietnam veterans, family members of the service personnel killed in the Vietnam War and other community members along with cadets from Trinity Catholic College united in remembrance at the memorial in Belmore Park. RSL president Gordon Wade led the brief service.

It was 51 years since the Battle of Long Tan. Wally Buckland, who was in the gathering was a private with the 6RAR D Company. For him it was a very personal day and one where he wished to be with people who understood what he had gone through. Wreaths were laid in tribute to each of the nine Goulburn servicemen who died during the war and since.
The Battle of Long Tan on August 18,1966 took place in a rubber plantation near Long Tan, in Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. The action was fought between Viet Cong and North Vietnamese units and elements of the 1st Australian Task Force (1 ATF) shortly after its lodgement in Phuoc Tuy.
