Canberra is experiencing a shift in pace. The city is transforming in every way: from its vision and direction, to local attitudes and the economy.
Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) is a major contributor to this economy. Along with Canberra’s universities, we give the region an edge as a world-class knowledge economy. Our students have a variety of backgrounds, skills and needs.
As a trusted and quality training provider, we work collaboratively with industry, community and students to achieve excellence in a fast changing tertiary education sector. Our teachers are experts in their industry fields. They bring invaluable knowledge, experience and connection to industry that benefits the entire student community.
CIT has future-ready courses positioned to ensure the skills needs of our nation are met. Our training packages and facility upgrades are poised to meet a major skills demand forecast in the health and community service sectors.
Our health and community courses offer a holistic training solution which includes face-to-face teaching, online activities, simulated learning in our labs and workplace learning through clinical placements in local and regional healthcare settings. Class based activities and work place visits are timed to meet the needs of the industry.
CIT has invested greatly in implementing a brand new simulated hospital and lab environment for our students to practice in. The facilities are mixed purpose and can be accessed by nursing, aged care, disability support, allied health and mental health care students.
We provide dedicated, specialised equipment ranging from simulated showering and personal care environment; facility beds, lifting hoists, rehabilitation aids, e.g. walking frames, wheelchairs, recliner chairs, lifting chairs, part trainers for specific nursing and medical skills as well as a range of full body simulation manikins.
More recently, the teachers within the Diploma of Nursing program have incorporated an inspirational teaching pedagogy that fosters learning through MaskEd – a high fidelity simulation technique with the use of a masked character that engages with student learning. It enables learners to make sense through reality; it promotes reflection on practice and serves as a strategy that caters for different learning styles.
CIT is a trusted, iconic feature of Canberra’s landscape and is ready to drive the future of skills development in a vital healthcare and community services sector.
