Almost 100 years of stock sales came to and end in April with a more than 2500-head weaner offering.
The Kattle Gear Australia managing director said a future use for the 8.7 hectare yard depended on whether he was approached.
“I’ve spoken to a few people but I really don’t know what the future holds. We are very busy in other parts of the business (in Victoria),” Mr Vowles said.
Earlier this year, Mr Vowles told The Post that he would likely sell the site. However, the land could add to other developments planned by the company.
Kattle Gear has won council approval for an industrial subdivision on land it owns immediately to the west of the yards. Mr Vowles said he was preparing to put blocks on the market.
“There’s no reason why they shouldn’t go well,” he said.
“It’s in a good location with other industrial businesses around it and has good access to the highway and services. Time will tell.”
The company retains two local employees on the books.
Mr Vowles said it was harder to shut a business down than start one. The property was still costing $20,000 annually in rates, plus sewer and power charges
“It’s sad that it’s all finished but at the end of the day we supported Goulburn agents as much as we could but they decided to go to Yass (South East Livestock Exchange),” he said.
Mr Vowles has donated some of the timber from the sheep yards to be manufactured into a table by Goulburn Woodworkers for the local history library.
