Although some competitors who nominated for the December 2 event were unable to make the rescheduled contest, on Saturday, there was still a good attendance and rather hotly contested divisions.
On Saturday three generations of one family Goulburn competed in the Tin Spinners competition and we are likely to see much more of these ion future contests Gina Toparis, her daughter Elle-Vayle Douglas and Elle-Vayle’s daughter, Stella Douglas who rode In the youngsters.
It’s decades since Gina Toparis started competing in barrel racing events, back then it was hand held stop watches to time the racers. On the weekend with electronic laser beam computer timing she posted some pretty handy times, earning her a fourth and third placing. Elle-Vayle picked up a second and a third. It is 11-years-ago that Elle-Vayle was the poster girl for the Royal Sydney Easter Show barrel racing contest and her performance in the saddle on Saturday showed how capable a horsewoman she is. No doubt Stella has every chance of success in the future with her riding.
Dot Dewsbury’s step daughter, Jess Heath another local cowgirl, placed for first time in her event finishing fourth in the 13 and under 17s junior Barrel racing, on Dot’s rope horse Shortie.
The open events were divided in to four divisions taking into consideration the experience and ability of both the horses and riders and there were several divisions for the younger competitors too.
The day would not have been possible without the volunteers and sponsors including, Fifes Stockfeeds, Mitiavite, Jazzy ropes, Brooke Mapp Hidez, Dutaills Saddlery, Signage one, Amy Mcllrick Images, Kevin Hay Homelee Hollow and Tuffrock rep, Warren Buyers CRSF Western Store, Goulburn Automotive, AA Panel Craft and the Goulburn Campdraft Association.
The next Tablelands Tin Spinners barrel racing day is on February 18.
