STRUG president Greg Price said despite previous utterances of support for tilt trains from Transport Minister Andrew Constance, they do not appear to be in the plans.
“Correspondence has come to us from Constance's Parliamentary Secretary Mark Coure stating the government will not be buying tilt trains,” Mr Price said.
“We think people in regional NSW are entitled to know why?
“We have asked Pru Goward to make inquiries and we are waiting to hear back about that.
“We have also asked her just what exactly are the specifications for the new trains? We have not been able to find any information about it.
“This should be available for public scrutiny because whatever they saddle us up with we will have until 2050.
“The NSW Government is replacing the whole fleet. The current fleet of trains came out in 1993 and the XPT about 10 years earlier - so they are nearly 40 years old.”
The next meeting of STRUG will be on Monday, February 5 at the Goulburn Workers Club at 7.30pm.
