The Goulburn Showgrounds was almost unrecognisable. Stalls, food trucks, rides and activities were almost too overwhelming for attendees who could not pick what to do first.
It was clear that the energy, almost tangible when walking across the grounds, came primarily from the children.
Pulling their parents hands and abruptly switching directions at ease, there was a contagious eruption of excitement.
Many who did not know each other bonded over an experience they shared as parents, and captured all the special moments with pride and love on their phone.
More so, the competitions on display illustrated the talent and creativity of the region. The showcase solidified the potential and quirky individuality many forget.
The Show as an event epitomises the community. The friendships, diverse groups and clubs, projects and aspirations.
Although it is a celebration of now, it is also recognition of a tomorrow brighter when we are all working together.
Is two better than one?
Member for Goulburn Pru Goward and Minister for Transport Andrew Constance made a recent announcement some may not have expected.
On March 1, the two announced a new coach service between Goulburn, Moss Vale and Canberra.
The new service, which would see users arriving to Sydney by 8.20am, was labelled as a trial.
“It is about better connecting our community with reliable links to centres of Canberra and Sydney,” Ms Goward said on the day, flanked by Mr Constance, Goulburn Mulwaree mayor Bob Kirk and the new contractors, Gerard Barklimore and Joe Kmet.
However, just a few weeks ago Marulan Truck and Bus Pty Ltd announced it would provide bus services between Goulburn and Canberra.
Southern Tablelands Rail User Group (STRUG) has been the most vocal in lobbying for electrification and tilt trains in the region; a solution that would eclipse more buses on the road
Will these two services compete with each other? Or will one drop out of the race?
The timing of these two announcements is particularly interesting, raising questions about the frequency of communication between the local and State Government.
