There certainly is a food theme to the festival with celebrity chefs appearing and authors who have written books about food – or around the theme of food – as in the case of local author Phillip Stamatellis’ book –Growing Up Cafe.
Mayor Bob Kirk is officially opening the festival at 10.20am in the Goulburn Mulwaree Library’s Children’s Room, followed by Mr Stamatellis with an author talk at 10.30am.
Over the day, there will be author talks, writing and publishing workshops, cooking demonstrations, cocktail and mocktail making, arts and crafts and some fantastic international food – courtesy of the legendary Food Trucks.
Celebrity chefs Ben O’Donoghue (Surfing the Menu, MasterChef), and Janelle Bloom (Ready Steady Cook) are giving talks about their books and also cooking demonstrations.
There will be talks by children’s author Hazel Edwards (There’s a Hippopotamus on my Roof Eating Cake), Suzanne Salem (Fava Beans for Breakfast).
John Newton, Elias Hallaj, Jane Lawson, and Erika Mordek are also holding writing, publishing, photography, blogging or book binding workshops.
The festival will also include market stalls with local authors and illustrators, and local produce and plants.
There’s plenty for the children to do too – with story time and craft sessions, singing and dancing with The Vegetable Plot band, and the kid’s zone jumping castle and rides.
The Aussie Night Markets Food Trucks are also returning and food is available from 12 noon to 9pm.
“You can grab some amazing and delicious international treats while watching a cooking demonstration, listening to an author talk, or visiting the market stalls,” Goulburn Mulwaree Library manager Erin Williams said.
“It will be a wonderful day of listening, learning, reading, and eating.”
“We are excited about the night Markets and the food trucks. It was a nice tie-in to the food theme.”
To accommodate the markets, Church St road between the Civic Centre and St Saviour’s Cathedral will be closed. Activities are happening in the Caroline Chisholm Courtyard including - the cooking demonstrations and stalls.
The Goulburn Reader Writer festival starts at 10am, with the Food Trucks serving from 12 noon to 9pm.
There are events happening right up until 7.30pm and The Vegetable Plot will be performing twice throughout the day. Even if it rains - the festival will go ahead.
The festival is supported by Goulburn Mulwaree Council and Destination NSW.
