I was pleased to note a report at last week’s council meeting regarding an annual benchmarking exercise amongst councils throughout Australia and New Zealand. The report is undertaken each year, comparing councils in a number of key focus areas.

It highlighted the considerable investment we are undertaking within the region – which is timely considering the very successful opening of the Adventure Playground last weekend!
Goulburn Mulwaree Council is investing $1090 per resident in the 2017/18 financial year, in comparison with the average of $720 at other councils. This investment is only made possible through careful management of our finances and taking advantages of opportunities such as grant funding. The good news is that we are also living within our means, with our four year budget meeting all fit for the future criteria established by the NSW Government.
We are investing in essential infrastructure such as rural road construction, widening and resealing, for which we have allocated $24m in the coming four financial years. And our capital works program includes exciting project such as the Performing Arts Centre, a new Rocky Hill War Memorial Museum and the redevelopment of the Aquatic Centre.
Grey Driving Skills
Goulburn Mulwaree Council, in partnership with Rotary, is hosting a Grey Driving Skill Enhancement Run on Sunday, May 20 from 10am.
The run is designed to help seniors sharpen their driving skills. Following a specifically chosen route around Goulburn, it includes a wide range of driving conditions and tasks before ending at the Council Chambers for further safe driving tips and a free lunch.
The day is supported by Goulburn Rotary and sponsored by the Astor Hotel. For bookings contact Tracey Norberg on 4823 4510 or email tracey.norberg@goulburn.nsw.gov.au
Housing Strategy consultation
A reminder that we are undertaking consultation before we begin preparation of the Goulburn Mulwaree Housing Strategy, which will address the desired character of these areas and plan for future growth.
The strategy will identify opportunities for future land releases and examine increased housing density, including shop-top housing, affordable housing and other options. A community workshop will be held Thursday, May 10 in the Council Chambers from 5.30pm. We hope to see a large crowd there.
