Over the course of the past nine years, the Stags have raised over $85,000, which has been donated to various charities.
This year, the tenth since the event’s inception in 2008, the club has decided to aim for the $100,000 mark, and they have enlisted the help of other clubs within the Southern Tablelands Football Association (STFA).
Stags president Craig Norris said that the fundraising efforts were initially not expected to be so successful.
“It was just sort of a bit of an email and they were launching a program called ‘Call to Arms’ through Football NSW,” he said.
“And we thought we’ll have a bit of a go at this, and we just thought we might raise a few hundred dollars.
“It was just a bit of a look and it took off, I think we did seven grand in the first year. It took us all by surprise and it’s grown it’s legs and kept going from there.”
Although previous years have featured custom jerseys for the players, recent years have seen a slight change to the tradition, with the players take to the field wearing multicoloured socks.
This year, each colour will represent one of the charities that has been represented in the last ten years.
All Stags teams will wear the socks, along with sides from Marulan, St Peter and Pauls, and Southern United.
“As we went to socks, the other clubs all started to say ‘we’ll grab them for this team or that team’,” Norris said.
“Obviously this year, bigger again, more clubs jumping on board. They’re all really supportive of the day.
“It brings all the clubs together for a cause in the end.”
This year’s proceeds will be donated to Goulburn CanAssist and Love Your Sister, the cancer charity begun by Samuel Johnson to raise funds for his sister, Connie, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012.
Along with the efforts during the day, the Stags will host a dinner with the Goulburn Workers Club to fundraise further.
Tickets to the dinner are $50 per person and patrons are asked to arrive at 5:30pm on Saturday June 16 for a 6:00pm start.
