Their next meeting is on Monday, July 2 at 7.30pm at the Goulburn Workers Club.
STRUG president Greg Price said they are going to revisit the request for a feasibility study into Tilt Trains during the state election campaign.
“As it is the season for the State Government to give out, we are going to resubmit our request for funding into a feasibility study into Tilt Trains,” Mr Price said.
“We are going to resubmit our previous funding request, because that was comprehensive and included submissions from various councils.
“Also, at the next STRUG meeting we are going to mark the original media release of the government about the new diesel tilt trains and give them a mark out of 10. I think STRUG members will give them a zero on that.
“They talk about faster travel times but they don’t talk about tilt trains anymore.”
Mr Price said STRUG would get more involved in politics during the election campaign.
“At the Regional Rail Action Group meeting of May 31, we discussed how, given it is an election next year, we are looking at what we can do collectively in relation to talking to all the candidates to get their views on passenger rail,” he said.
“We will be participating. In the past we have sat back passively but we feel we need to get involved now and start quizzing them and push the candidates to state whether they are in favour of tilt trains rather than just sitting on the fence.
“Shadow Minister for transport Jodi McKay has already been here and we have asked the ALP to commit to tilt trains to offer a point of difference to the government.
“As far as we know the government has not asked for tilt trains in their tender requests.”
