The Working Party has done a great job and the new plans show a grand vision that will incorporate an array of health, recreation and sporting activities.
As a growing centre, there is no doubt Goulburn needs such facilities to keep up with other areas in the state.
But the extensive redevelopment will come at a revised cost of $45 million, which may come as a bit of shock to some readers, considering an estimate printed in our paper in November last year had the project costing $37m.
But acting general manager Matt O’Rourke said this is in line with initial expectations and puts the revised figure down to “more detailed design plans, construction market escalation since the first estimate was prepared and additional scope items around the warm water pool.”
And while stage one of the project is covered in operational costs, where the rest of the funding is coming from at this stage is unclear.
That said, it is a bold plan and best of luck to them.
A lot of recreational and cultural facilities are being provided for the community at the moment including the popular Wollondilly Walkway and the Veolia Arena.
It is a great time to be living in Goulburn Mulwaree.
It seems this trend will continue with the redevelopment of the Aquatic Centre and the Performing Arts Centre.
Ensuring adequate nurse to patient ratios
Nurse to patient ratios were the hot topic at this week’s Politics at the Pub.
The Nurses and Midwives Union’s request for a ratio of 1:3 in emergency departments and 1:4 in rural and regional hospital departments seems easy to understand.
Surely it is a good idea to ensure that that patients receive enough care from the otherwise stressed and overworked nurses by providing enough staff.
Though not there in person, Ms Goward reassured the small crowd via letter that there was indeed enough staff in rural hospitals and that everyone was happy with local health services.
It was pleasing to hear her words come down from the mountain like that, though nobody in the room seemed converted.
