The newly constructed Nadgigomar Creek Bridge was officially opened on August 24.
The project involved construction of a new two-lane bridge and the realignment of the approaches to the bridge to alleviate flooding.
Replacement of the Nadgigomar Bridge was made possible through the NSW and Federal Government who each contributed $712,800 for the project.
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said the Bridges Renewal Program was investing millions of dollars in Hume community infrastructure.
“This important local project, which involved the realignment of approaches to raise the road higher, will allow for a safer crossing during periods of flooding,” Mr Taylor said.
“With the new bridge providing two traffic lanes, the chance of vehicle collision will be significantly reduced and the overall safety of the crossing will be improved.”
State Member for Goulburn Pru Goward said the new bridge had removed a pinch point for the freight industry which would cut transport costs and increase productivity.
“The freight industry is worth tens of billions of dollars to the NSW economy and we are committed to building efficient and reliable road networks for industry as well as improving safety for all road users,” Ms Goward said.
“That’s why we have reserved more than $540 million in Restart NSW funding under the Fixing Country Roads program for rural and regional road projects.
“The Nadgigomar Creek Bridge is just one of more than 230 projects which have been awarded $214 million funding under the program so far, 12 of which are right here in the Goulburn electorate.”
Mayor Bob Kirk thanked local members Pru Goward and Angus Taylor for their ongoing support of the region.
“We continue to have success with grant applications to both the NSW and Federal Government’s and I believe this is largely due to the advocacy of both Pru & Angus,” Cr Kirk said.
“This funding is essential for us to maintain and upgrade our infrastructure, and I know many residents and travellers will be pleased by the new bridge.”
Nadgigomar Bridge has now been constructed to a 1:20 flood level; a substantial improvement on the current bridge standard.
