Residents of Goulburn Mulwaree will be able to dispose of bulky waste such as household furniture, green waste, cardboard and steel for free at the waste centres, with each property limited to two cubic metres of waste.
The same items that were previously accepted in the September clean up service will be accepted during the November disposal weekend.
The items must be sorted so that recyclables such as green waste, steel and cardboard are placed in the appropriate areas at the waste centres or charges will apply.
Items with a per-item charge, including tyres, mattresses and fridges/freezers will NOT be accepted for free during the November disposal weekend.
Councillors made the decision to replace the bulky waste clean-up service at their meeting on December 12 last year.
Mayor Bob Kirk encouraged the community to take advantage of the disposal weekend in November, and explained the reasons for the changes.
“A free disposal weekend for mattresses, e-waste and fridges/freezers/air-conditioners was held in May and proved very popular,” Cr Kirk said.
“This was a completely new service and the first time the council had provided free disposal for items such as mattresses and fridges, since a per-item charge was introduced some time ago.
He said the same service would be offered again in May, 2019.
“I am sure many will take advantage of the upcoming bulky waste disposal weekend in November,” he said.
“We are expecting lines but will have as many staff on hand as possible and will modify access to Goulburn Waste Management Centre for the weekend to assist traffic flow.
“We hope people will plan ahead and remain patient throughout the day.
“The change was made as the council clean-up week was presenting many environmental, safety, health, and perception issues. It was a safety issue for our staff and we also found that it was creating a real mess around our City.
“During the May disposal weekend, a number of residents used handyman services, assistance from neighbours, or community organisations such as churches to help transport their waste if required.”
Waste Management Centres in Goulburn, Marulan and Tarago will be open from 7am to 4pm on November 3 and 4.
For more information call the Waste Info Line on 4823 4417.
The following items are excluded from the November free disposal weekend:
- Any items with a per-item charge at Council’s waste centres (e.g. mattresses, fridges/freezers/airconditioners, tyres, animals)
- Hazardous waste (e.g. asbestos, paint, chemicals, batteries, e-waste)
Goulburn Mulwaree Council will again also be supporting the Garage Sale Trail on October 20 and 21.
“The event was a huge success in 2017, and we encourage residents with unwanted items that are worth reusing or repurposing to register to hold a garage sale on this weekend in October,” Cr Kirk said.
“The council will be supporting the event through advertising and publicity in the lead up and participating sellers from previous years reported great success with their sales.”
