And soon, as a result of state government grant funding, their beloved skate park will be extended.
This idea was greeted by a group of young skaters at the park on Monday as “awesome.”
Young people will be involved in the consultation about improving the facility later this year, with construction set to be completed in 2019.
Goulburn Mulwaree Council awarded the tender for design and construction of the extension of Victoria Park Skate Park to Trinity Skateparks for $347,468 at their meeting last Tuesday.
Funding for the upgrade is through the NSW Government Stronger Country Communities Fund, in which Victoria Park was awarded $896,000.
The skate park design will focus on providing elements that will cater for beginners and younger skaters.
The entire project will expand on the range of activities proposed for Victoria Park as part of the master planning process, which includes the Adventure Playground, multi-purpose sports playground, proposed Aquatic Centre upgrade and the proposed Seiffert Oval pavilion.
Member for Goulburn Pru Goward said the NSW Government is focused on providing quality open space facilities for the youth around the state.
“I know how many young people and children in Goulburn love our skate park and I’m thrilled we’re able to build them a better one. The extension will cater for kids of all ages, and add to Victoria Park as a whole,” she said.
Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Bob Kirk said he is looking forward to seeing some elements incorporated for the younger children of the region.
“I know from anecdotal things I hear that we have a Skate Park in Goulburn that is well known around NSW as one of the best. The new elements will mean beginners and our younger children have some more features to learn new skills and join the fun.
“Victoria Park is an incredibly popular space for our region. This extension will only add to that.”
