With race one scheduled to start at 2.34 pm, the first of Hewitt’s runners is the enigmatic four-year-old mare Serene Sea.

She has drawn barrier 11 in race two, the Southern Highlands Equine Centre pace, and the mare only needs to be on her best behaviour to bring up the win.

Blessed with a good turn of foot, the mare has often been the undoing of her chances through bad starts or mid race breaks, however, following some solid trial performances she looks set for another win in what is not an overly strong field. Hardest to beat is the Menangle-based Major Lucky.

In race three, the NSW Standard Bred Owners Association/TAB.COM.AU pace, the Hewitt trained Madame Leza is having her first start since September when she came fourth to prolific winner Ominous Warning at Bathurst.

The mare has drawn a little wide in barrier five; however is a recent trial winner at the track which bodes well for her chances this afternoon.

To be driven by Sam Hewitt, Madame Leza will have strong opposition from the Sydney based pacers New York Rain and Its Mesmerise who have drawn barrier two and four respectively.

The third of Hewitt’s chances is the well performed Stanley Ross Robyn who contests race five, the Goulburn Soldiers Club pace.

A contestant in the Group 1 Chariots Of Fire in 2017, the pacer had been racing much stronger Menangle fields until his form taper off during the winter.

In this afternoon’s event, the pacer has drawn barrier 9, and with the 6 year old gelding a recent trial place getter behind the classy Arma The Gun, he looks very well placed to bounce back into the winner’s stall first up.
