Now in its fifth year, the Small Farm Field Day will be held at the Moss Vale Showground on February 2 and 3.
The organisers say it’s shaping up to be even bigger and better with a huge increase in demonstrations, exhibitors and activities for the whole family.
“The continued interest generated from previous years has certainly helped us to build a wide range of displays and a comprehensive schedule of events,” said event manager, Elizabeth Newham Nichols.
“Not only will these include the usual Sporting Shooters Association of Australia’s Rifle Range, reptile talks and fantastic working dog demonstrations, but we have two new exciting performances.
“We are really looking forward to it and believe they will all be very popular throughout the weekend”.
For the first time in the Southern Highlands, Tim from Boggy Creek will be attending. “He will be performing his spectacular horse and whip cracking show which has received international acclaim.
“The other exciting addition to the event schedule is the ShowMow team; ride-on mower racing that will certainly be interesting for everyone. Cheer on your favourite throughout the weekend.
“One exhibitor that will certainly wow audiences will be the Hawkesbury Kelpie Working Dogs who will be demonstrating on Sunday.
“Anthony will be showing the versatility of a fully trained working kelpie including rounding up a mob of sheep, putting them into a drench race and running along their backs, working the mob up a ramp onto a platform, backing the mob and more. Kids can also say hi to the dogs afterwards.

“Another exhibitor that will be loved by the kids will be Allan Burnett from the Reptile Awareness Displays of Australia.
“Allan’s talk will be informative and educational covering such topics as behaviours and characteristics of snakes, techniques and tips to avoid those bites and most importantly, the latest first aid treatment; plus you can get up close to some of them.”
A popular activity that will be returning to the 2019 field day will be the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia’s new air rifle range. They will be educating visitors on safe techniques and what requirements people will need to follow when owning a rifle.
“All these activities are free after entry and will certainly make the 2019 Small Farm Field Day an event to remember”, commented Elizabeth.
“There will also be old farm machinery in action, kids’ rides and face painting – a great family day out”.
Since calling for exhibitors, Elizabeth also said the response has been very positive.
“It is great to not only welcome back past exhibitors but we look forward to meeting many new ones as well.
“The variety of the exhibitors will again be outstanding, especially with the many new developments and techniques that will assist the farmers, large and small, in this region”.
Throughout the weekend there will also be a comprehensive schedule of events including demonstrations and competitions.
“Some of these presentations, conducted by NSW farmers, will be a great opportunity to find out the latest techniques and technologies around sustainability and farming.”
The Small Farm Field Day will be held at the Moss Vale Showground on the February 2 and 3 from 9am to 4pm.
Tickets will be $5 each with under 15 years free.
