It’s the perfect time to enjoy watching the sun set and the warm evening air at Kingsdale Winery for a screening of The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Society.
BDCU Goulburn Hospital Fundraising Inc. will donate all funds raised from the popular event for much-needed equipment for the hospital and community health.
Committee president Nerida Cullen says the event has been a huge success since it began, with about $300,000 donated through the incorporation since 2008.
Nearly 250 people from the district attended last year’s screening and the committee is hoping for a similar number this year.
“Last year, it was a full house. It’s a very popular event,” Ms Cullen said. “People put it in their calendar and wait for it to come around every year.”
This year’s movie choice, featuring actors Jessica Brown Findlay and Tom Courtenay, follows a writer who records her experiences of World War II in the occupied British isle of Guernsey.
“We try to get movies that will suit the majority of people’s taste,” Ms Cullen said.
“People come along and have a very relaxing evening with some gourmet pizzas and dessert and some wine, which is all purchased at Kingsdale.”
This year, the committee’s goal is to raise over $5000 from the movie screening fundraiser.
The funds would contribute to purchase of a $30,000 hearing booth and equipment for Goulburn Base Hospital. The hearing booth removes all ambient noise to give an accurate hearing test.
“The one at the hospital at the moment is 30 years old and is in danger of collapsing, so it can’t be sent to the new hospital,” Ms Cullen said.
Fundraising events that also are also entertaining are important for the incorporation, which aims to fill the gap between the needs of the Goulburn Mulwaree community and government funding of the Goulburn Base Hospital. “The government doesn’t fund all the equipment the hospital needs,” Ms Cullen said.
Tickets are $50 for the film, food and wine at Kingsdale Winery, just 10 minutes along the Crookwell Road, Saturday February 16 from 6.30pm.
