Not only will there be the traditional Fashions on the Field event with categories for women, men and under 18s, there will also be a fashion-spotting competition held on the day.
A photographer from the Goulburn Post will be snapping race-goers throughout the day.
The pictures will then be uploaded to an online gallery where the public can vote on who they think should be crowned best-dressed.
The winner will receive a trip for two to Royal Randwick for Day One of The Championships, which are the grand finals of Australian racing.
With the autumn racing season officially beginning on March 1, those wishing to also enter the Danny Williams' Fashions On The Field need to adhere to the seasonal dress code. (This doesn’t apply to the fashion-spotting competition.)
Ladies should have millinery made of a heavier fabric such as leather, felt, velvet or metal rather than the straw hats that were popular in the warmer months. The same applies for the gents.
Millinery is arguably the most important component of a race day outfit because it sets the look apart from any other.
Top milliners have been sharing their new season designs on social media over recent weeks and if that’s anything to go by velvet pony tail bows in jewel colours are going to be popular.
Headbands are a great choice for fuss-free headwear, especially for anyone planning on going out afterwards. Wide brimmed hats have also taken off after featuring heavily in runway shows from Paris to Milan.
Androgynous fashion is having a moment in the spotlight and as a result the versatile pants suit has made a comeback.
It combines style and comfort which is invaluable for a long day at the races. High necklines and low hemlines are on trend, especially mid-calf skirts. While the fashion purists argue shoes should be closed toe for autumn, it’s not a hard and fast rule.
Julieanne Horsman from Racing NSW will be among the judges for Danny Williams' Fashions On Field and is expecting it to be a tough task.
“The women and men who attend Goulburn races always look impeccable,” she said.
“I’m impressed by their unique millinery, beautiful outfits and perfectly styled accessories. I’m looking forward to seeing how they have interpreted the latest trends and getting some inspiration for my own outfits!”
Information about Danny Williams' Fashions On The Field, including start times, will be available from the Goulburn Race Club office on the day.
