Lots of pre- and primary school students were engaged with the travelling exhibits, but also their parents and carers, giving each stand a go to see the principles of scientific understanding at work and - most of all - at play.
Shows across the day were presented with the flair of a magician's flourish, not least the 'brick smash', a feat with much derring-do over a bed of nails.
The ANU Masters contemporary degree in science communication seeks to raise the population's awareness and appreciation of science.
It combines theoretical and practical aspects of science communication, and delves into topics including science in the media, science and public policy, ethics of science and cross-cultural science communication.
The science circus is a combined initiative of the ANU, Shell and Questacon.
