She was last year's winner of 'Young Entrepreneur' at the local and regional level and has been nominated in the 'Business Leader' category this year.
Q) A brief introduction about when and how you decided to venture into the business
A) At the age of 14, I started my hairdressing apprenticeship. With the skills that I have learned in the last 22 years in hairdressing and 12 years in makeup, I was able to create a freelancing business that suited and allowed the balance between my family and career goals.
Q) How has your professional journey been so far
A) My professional journey so far has been overwhelmingly incredible. I am lucky to have gained many loyal clients including locals, Prime 7 TV, Channel 9, FOX Sports and Christine Anu.
Q) What is your approach towards your business that sets you apart from others and helped you win the award of 'Young Entrepreneur'
A) My approach towards my business that sets me apart from others is a mix of professional development, industry knowledge and a positive attitude. With the help of good PD (professional development), we can stay at the forefront of the industry in techniques, skills and knowledge which is a huge advantage in a saturated industry.
Q) What is your formula for success
A) Freelancing allows flexibility and this is great for the mind and the body. This means we can stay focused and balanced at the same time.
Volunteer for great work experience opportunities. I still volunteer as an assistant to inspiring artists or stylists. If you treat every work experience as a free workshop, you gain skills.
Rely on other professionals to help run your business. This includes accountants, solicitors and consultants. An accountant once told me 'why not work just 3 hours more per week to cover the cost of the professional in the field (they will take way less time to do it and you get to do what you love instead)'.
Q) Has anything changed for you professionally after winning the award
A) Winning the award was such a highlight for my little business last year, I gained a lot of new clients and have now been able to open my own studio in Goulburn.
Q) Are you hoping to be nominated and winning the award this year too?
A) I am lucky enough to have been nominated again this year in the 'Business Leader' category.
Q) How are you planning on progressing your business?
A) I am a big believer in strategy mapping and goal setting. To progress a business, you must find the hole in the market and fill it. Having said that, I plan on staying up-to-date in the industry, offer everything I can and research on things I don't yet offer to make them available.
