Sandy Point and Oallen Ford Roads have both experienced fatalities in recent years. Last year the council secured $945,515 from the State Government's blackspot program to realign a curve on Sandy Point Road, near the Miller Road intersection where a bus had crashed in 2015. The work, which also included 1km of pavement widening, was to be spread over 2018/19 and 2019/20.

The council also scored $213,475 in Roads to Recovery funding for realignment of 300 metres of a "substandard curve" on Oallen Ford Road, 3km south of Nadgigomar Creek. The project was to be delivered in 2018/19.
Operations director Matt O'Rourke told the most recent meeting that favourable weather conditions meant the Sandy Point Road work had progressed faster than expected and it could be finished this financial year. A total $500,515 was brought forward to enable this.
But he said additional works had also been identified for both areas and it made sense to do them now.
This included an extra 200 metres of road widening on Sandy Point Road to improve transition of the curve realignment at the Miller Road intersection and to address "substandard pavement" around the new work. The full width of the widened sections will also be resealed.
Councillors agreed to transfer an additional $145,000 from a section 94 fund for the project.
They also allocated $180,000 more from the Oallen Ford Rd section 94 fund for extra work on that thoroughfare. This will cover widening of an additional 100 metres to improve the curve's realignment back into the road, as well as rock excavation encountered during the project which was not accounted for in the original tender.
Cr Denzil Sturgiss said the work was very welcome.
"There was a fatality on that road (Sandy Point) a few years ago," he said.
Denrith Pty Ltd is undertaking the roadwork. Cr Andrew Banfield declared a pecuniary interest in the item and left the room during discussion. His brother-in-law, Andy Divall, is a Denrith director.
