Rowan Conroy's first major solo exhibition Sightseeing, and Joan Whittle's snapshot series The Deluge will be held at the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery this July.

Conroy's photographic and drone work spans several years is informed by the discipline of field archaeology. Sightseeing captures large scale moments from Conroy's exploration of sites in Cyprus, Turkey, Syria and Australia, including Lake George.
His work focuses on the debris and incidental discoveries of both sites of antiquity, and sites of urban excavation, said Doctor Kate Warren, lecturer of art history and curatorship in the School of Art and Design at the Australian National University.
His photographic series works against the tendencies of crispness, glossiness and HD aesthetics, she said. Instead, he will return again and again to the same matter to reveal the matter. He photographs the landscape at Lake George piece by piece and stitches it together.
In 2017, Conroy was awarded the Create NSW regional arts fellowship to undertake a range of creative research activities over two years.
In Snapshot, Crookwell based artist Jean Whittle presents a series of oil paintings The Deluge.
Whittle has previously entered artwork in the iconic Wynne Prize for Australian landscapes run by the Art Gallery of NSW. She has a unique style of painting, in that she applies the paint directly to the surface with her bare hands.
"I can't say the day that I started painting by hand but it gave me the technique and the detail that I liked," Whittle said.
Whittle uses an unblended palette: "The artists blends the colours with an instinctive energy across her canvas; an energy that is reflected in the flowing directions of colours and textures."
Her subjects are a flash flood in Western Australian and the mookaite gemstone also found in Western Australia.
"Australia is absolutely gorgeous as far as colours are concerned, we have those beautiful bronze colours and oranges. We're just so bright and colourful and I love that."
"This series is subtle because of the colours of the rock," Whittle said.
It is the first time that Whittle will exhibit at the gallery as part of the gallery's Snapshot exhibitions which supports local and regional artists.
The exhibition will run from July 12 to September 7 at the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery. The opening night will be held on Friday, July 12 at 6pm, and the artists, Conroy and Whittle, will host an artist's talk on Friday, July 26 at 1pm.
