Fire brigades have once again been called to a flare-up of a fire that caused the Hume Highway near Goulburn to be partially closed on Tuesday.
At 9.30pm NSW Fire and Rescue and Rural Fire Service responded to reports a tree had caught alight in the median strip just north of the overpass at south Goulburn.
A NSW Fire and Rescue spokesman said it was in the same place as Tuesday's outbreak and was quickly extinguished. There was no impact on traffic and police were also on scene.
Update Wednesday 1pm
Fire crews responded to a minor flare-up of the fire beside the Hume Highway at Goulburn on Tuesday night.
Southern Tablelands RFS Inspector Peter Alley said a tussock caught alight at about 10pm and firefighters quickly doused it.
Authorities believe a wheel that came off a trailer as it was travelling under the underpass started the blaze, which was on both the northern and southern sides of the large roundabout at South Goulburn.
It burnt out five hectares.
Update Tuesday 6pm
Police have blocked off northbound traffic on a section of the Hume Highway near South Goulburn while firefighters combat two blazes.
The fires, which started close to 5pm, erupted on the northern side of the south Goulburn roundabout, beside Mazamet Road, and further north around the northbound on-ramp into the city.
The RFS now has it it listed as 'being controlled.'
Southern Tablelands RFS posted on its Facebook page that crews were gaining the upper hand and would be mopping up for some time.
Flames were shooting up and smoke billowed from the area. Southbound vehicles had pulled over and police closed the lane soon after. The Traffic Management Centre said these had since re-opened but all northbound lanes remain closed at Hume Street.
Northbound motorists are being diverted into Hume Street to travel through Goulburn to rejoin the highway just north of the town.
At 5.30pm Hume Street was blocked at the Sowerby Street intersection. Ambulance was stationed as precaution on the large roundabout above the bypass.
Tuesday 5.20pm
There are reports of a fire on the Hume Highway near the southern exit from Goulburn.
The Hume Highway is now closed in both directions at Goulburn as well as between Sutton Forest and Marulan due to bushfires.
At 5.15pm, the NSW RFS said four trucks were in attendance at the fire.
NSW Fire and Rescue is also attending.
The fire is located on the southern side of the roundabout on the Run O Waters side of the highway.
