Officer-in-charge at Goulburn Police Station Inspector Matt Hinton said the man drove a black hatchback vehicle along Sloane Street in a northerly direction, came to the intersection at Clifford Street and lost control. The vehicle then hit the gutter in front of the station before mounting the footpath and colliding with the fence.
The crash caused about 6 m of damage to fencing at the front of the station.
The vehicle contained four other occupants. No one sustained any injuries.
Inspector Hinton said police were swiftly on the scene in response to the noise of the collision.
The driver was arrested immediately, taken into custody and subjected the breath analysis. The test returned a reading of 0.171.
He was charged with high range PCA and bailed to appear before Goulburn Local Court on March 25.
The man was a visitor to Goulburn and contracted to do work in the area.
Inspector Hinton said drink driving was an abhorrent behavior and not only a risk for the driver but put passengers, other people and other motorists in danger.
"The decision to drink drive when you are seriously affected by alcohol puts everyone's lives at risk."
He said it was not fair on police officers who have to respond to these incidents particularly when people were seriously injured.
