That's the position Brian Di Francesco, licensee of the Gordon Hotel, finds himself in as he waits anxiously for any word on the reopening of pubs.
"I have my fingers crossed for Friday," he said, referring to the National Cabinet meeting that will hopefully announce the next round of easing of restrictions.
"But I'm hoping they'll only open us when the community's really ready, or they'll have to close us again."

The Gordon Hotel has been closed since restrictions first came down, and Mr Di Francesco said they are using the time to "spruce the place up."
"We're going pretty good, just sitting back waiting," he said.
"But the day they let me open, I will."
Over at Tattersalls Hotel, manager Sean Griffiths said that he also expects to hear some news on Friday.
Following an online meeting with the Australian Hotels Association recently, he understood the Northern Territory would be used as a test case.
"The AHA said that if NSW keeps tracking as they are, we'll be following the NT, three weeks behind," said Mr Griffiths.
"So that means an opening on about June 5, just for dining in, and heavily restricted. No pokies, no TABs, just a restaurant and bar feel."
He expected many of the restrictions to apply for the rest of the year.
"No one knows, of course, but the AHA has been liaising a lot with Canberra," he said.
"But then, there could be a massive turn around and this won't even be a topic of conversation because we'll be shut for even longer."
The Tattersalls cafe has been trading almost as usual, since most of their business is take away, and the accommodation connected with the hotel is full.
"The period has been terrible revenue-wise, but we still have some revenue, never-the-less," he said.
