There are currently five active cases of coronavirus in Canberra, all linked to the Melbourne outbreak.
A spokesperson from the Southern NSW Local Health District said as a precaution the requirement for NSW residents returning from Melbourne hot spots to self-isolate for 14 days had been extended to anyone returning from Victoria.
They said heavy penalties and fines applied.
"Do not go to work or catch public transport until you are cleared of COVID-19," they said
"It is essential people follow directions they receive about home isolation and quarantine and maintain COVID-safe practices of physical distancing of 1.5 metres, cough or sneeze into their elbow, and regularly wash their hands.
"Anyone feeling unwell, even with the mildest of symptoms such as a runny nose or scratchy throat, is urged to self-isolate and seek testing."
If you're unwell - call the Southern NSW helpline 1800 999 880 (option 1) to speak to a registered nurse and to book a free COVID-19 test.
