Rangers reported to a recent council meeting that the "well cared for and very much loved" cats found themselves bereft of an owner after her sudden passing.
"All of the cats were de-sexed, micro-chipped and most were vaccinated. All were in good health," the report stated.
A ranger overheard a friend of the owner sharing the story as she was sourcing supplies for the shelter. The facility offered to take the cats and find them new homes.
"We are happy to say we have had huge success in doing just that. So far, 15 of the 18 cats have found their new homes and are settling in nicely.
The Shelter has also had broader success in re-homing animals through social media promotion.

Meantime, rangers reported that 18 dogs and 17 cats were impounded in August. Eight dogs were returned to owners, while four had been surrendered. Eight dogs and 15 cats were sold and none were euthanised.
Mayor Bob Kirk has previously praised staff in re-homing animals, saying the facility was much more than a traditional 'pound.'
