Overall in 2020 there have been nine major collisions involving heavy vehicles in the Yass Sector, most of which occurred on the Hume Highway with these collisions resulting in extensive traffic delays and road closures
It is believed that the main contributing factor for these collisions was driver fatigue and/or inattention.
On Wednesday, December 9 police from The Hume Police District will be holding a 'Coffee with a Cop' style event for truck drivers.
On this date we are encouraging heavy vehicle operators travelling north to stop at the Mundoonen Rest Area and have a coffee on us.
Local police will be in attendance along with representatives from the RMS, Yass Valley Council and the Australian Trucking Association.
The purpose of this operation is to engage with truck drivers and discuss issues surrounding driver fatigue and any other issues truck drivers might like to discuss.
