SKY has leased a shed in Goulburn to process and store drill core from their Hume project near Breadalbane.
The company, which focuses on the exploration and development of mineral resources in Australia, is currently undertaking gold exploration work called the Cullarin Project on a site 25km west of Goulburn.
This area is considered to be a prospective site for a range of gold-copper-zinc mineralisation types.
A Goulburn Mulwaree Council spokesperson confirmed the recent development related to the Australian and New Zealand-owned company.
"Sky metals are employing a number of locals as part of this exploration project occurring in Cullarin," the spokesperson added.
"They have identified a high-grade gold zone, which they are now investigating further - the core sampling is being undertaken here in Goulburn which is great for our region."
Meanwhile, Sky Metals chief executive officer Mark Arundell earlier this year had said that the results from the company's drill programme are a very strong validation of the SKY gold strategy and targeting methodology.
"These drill results, combined with the soil results, upgrade both the potential tenor and scale of the Hume Target. Simply, SKY has encountered very promising results in the two drill holes completed.
"SKY needs to conduct further low impact drilling in order to determine whether there is continuity of the gold mineralisation encountered and then if this is established, we'll have a clearer idea of the potential of finding more gold."
