The event, at the Goulburn Club, celebrated the life of David Penalver, who passed away from acute myeloid leukaemia on December 6, aged eighty-one.
A private cremation had already taken place but Friday was a chance for family, friends and associates to remember his contribution across many fronts.
The founding Goulburn Heritage Group member and retired architect was best known for his staunch defence of the city's built history, but also his reasoned and balanced supporting arguments.
Local history buffs, including Mayor Bob Kirk, were among those attending.
Less well known were Mr Penalver's detailed sketches of buildings not just in Goulburn but all around the world. These and his drawings of trains, another of his passions, were on display.
The informal function also drew friends from Mr Penalver's school days at North Sydney Boys School.
His wife, Daphne, also a founding Heritage Group member, daughter Marion from Sydney and her four children hosted the event.
Son Adrian and his family, who live in Paris, were unable to attend.
