Located diagonally opposite to The Loaded Dog Hotel, three new shops have opened in town which includes an arts and crafts shop featuring the aboriginal art.

Tarago real estate agent Judy Alcock said the blue in the mural represents the rivers around Tarago including Lake Bathurst and Lake George. "Water was very important to the Aboriginals around the area and those travelling through. It was an important food source for them," she said.

"The different shades of yellow in the mural represent the grasses and wattle around the area which was an important food source while the Gurangatch, which are snake and eel like creatures, is the dreaming story of how the Wollondilly River was created.

"The Goanna represents the totem for the Wiradjuri Nation and the hand prints represent the community and the people involved in the painting of the mural. The fish not only represents the Pejar LALC but is also a food source."

Apart from the addition of the arts and craft shop, an antiques shop has opened and a cafe is set to open in town in the next few months.

Mrs Alcock said that Tarago is becoming a preferred choice for people from nearby places like Canberra etc due to housing and rental affordability.

"The demand for real estate market is increasing due to affordable housing and rental in town. Over the years, it's interesting to see the town evolve over the years from largely a farming community to those preferring to relocate here from nearby areas like Canberra due to high housing prices and looking for a change in their lifestyle and retirees etc," she said.

"Looking at these developments, we have even asked the Goulburn Mulwaree Council to focus on the strategic planning for Tarago too."
