Riders with a tailwind at their backs set off from the Breadalbane Church and climbed up the Cullerin Range to the turnaround at the summit. The strengthening headwind on the return journey would test all the riders.
Nothing separated the A Grade riders for the entire race with each one taking their turn at the front of the peloton.
In the mad sprint to the finish line, Jacob Emmerton was awarded the win over Robbie Dorsett and Andy Cartwright. All riders recorded the same time.
The B Grade race was also a tight affair with nothing separating the peloton for the whole race. Riders shared the workload back into the wind on the return journey and only a handful of seconds separated the riders at the finish.
Phil Champion took out the honours this week from Mark Howard and Gavin Moroney just ahead of Jason Pattison.
In a closely-contested C Grade, Shannon Apps won narrowly over Zane Jackson with Nadine Moroney in third place.
Visiting para cyclist Stuart Jones from Newcastle Cycle Club was looking for a tough race as part of his preparation for the upcoming National Championships in Ballarat.
Taking full advantage of the tailwind, Peter Jackson and Stuart opened up a handy lead by the turnaround. Peter was first through the turnaround and powered up the climb to the rail bridge.
Stuart stuck to his wheel and started to pull away on the descent off the Cullerin Range. Stuart battled into the headwind along Poplar Straight and powered to the finish line a minute ahead of Peter Jackson. Peter Lucus soloed into third place.
Next Wednesday, January 27, racing is on Range Road for the Michael Navybox Memorial Handicap. Sign on is at the corner of Range Road and Chinamans Lane by 6pm with racing starting at 6.30pm. New and visiting riders are welcome. In memory of Michael riders are encouraged to wear the 'Ride with Mike' kit or club kit.
