Bringing together teams from Merimbula, Batemans Bay, Shoalhaven, Kiama, Illawarra, Wollondilly, Moss Vale and Goulburn, the Under 12s, Under 14s and Under 18s divisions put on an impressive show of ball skills.
Goulburn was represented with a team each in the Under 14 Boys and Under 14 Girls showing their skill on the courts of the multi-million dollar Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre.
After a COVID-interrupted season in 2020, players were keen to hit the hardwood and the results demonstrated that they haven't been sitting by idly during the off-season and a half.
The Under 14 Boys had a tough start against highway rivals, Moss Vale, to go down 23-46, before bouncing back against Batemans Bay in a thrilling, yet heartbreaking, one-point loss 35-36.
Illawarra Red stamped their early dominance in this division, putting 60 points on the scoreboard against Goulburn's valiant 36. The outstanding individual for the age group was without a doubt Goulburn's Joshua Dennis, scoring 61 points, including three three-pointers, to average 20.33 points per game.
The Under 14 Girls started shakily with a 12-point loss to the hometown side, Shoalhaven, before bouncing back in the afternoon to leave Merimbula in their wake with a 24-point victory.
It was a great team effort across the day, with some notable plays that sees Rhiannon Wild leading the free throws made in the division and Ella Mitchell top-scoring for the day.
All eyes will turn to Goulburn as the Under 14s look to capitalise on the home court advantage when teams from across the Barrengarry region travel to Veolia Arena and the Ross Whittaker Stadium for the Green Round on April 18.
Barrengarry members are particularly excited to be able to play on the courts named in honour of long-time Barrengarry Executive member and competitions coordinator, Ross Whittaker, who passed away in early 2019.
