The man is being treated for chest and rib injuries, but is in a stable condition at Canberra Hospital.
NSW Ambulance station officer Jenna Robinson said "it was a horrific feeling hearing a car had rolled on a highway".
"You never know the extent of the damage until you arrive.
"We urge the public to stay alert to the dangers when behind the wheel of any motor vehicle."
Update: 12.30pm
The male in his eighties has been taken to Canberra Hospital for minor injuries.
Police said the red Honda CRV hit a tree on the side of the road and rolled onto its side.
All lanes are now open.
Earlier
An elderly man has been injured in a single-vehicle car crash south of Goulburn.
Police said the male, aged in his eighties, was travelling north on the Hume Highway at Yarra when his vehicle rolled at about 10.30am.
The crash occurred near the intersection with the Federal Highway, some 7km south of Goulburn.
Two ambulance crews, police and RFS are on the scene. Police said the man was initially trapped but had been extricated.
He suffered pain to his arm and hand and was in a stable condition. The man was being treated at the scene but would be taken to Canberra Hospital.
One northbound lane is closed.
