The best efforts of passersby were not enough to save a man who died after his car rolled on the Hume Highway on Thursday.
Police were called to the Hume Highway at Oolong, about 20km east of Yass, just after 2.20pm following reports a Toyota Corolla had rolled.
A number of passing motorists stopped to render assistance to the driver, an 86-year-old man.
Following the arrival of emergency services, the man was airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition, where he later died.
Officers from The Hume Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
