Bill Needham, founder of the museum said that the doors for the museum had been closed to the public for over nine months due to the pandemic.
"However, the time was utilised to complete the museum's new $100,000 building extension earlier this year. Funded mainly due to the generosity of the trustees of the Bradfordville Community Hall, the extension doubles the display floor space of the original building," he said.
"We have had the support from many Goulburn families in giving the exhibition some biographical details for their relatives."
The Friends of the Museum have announced that the museum will reopen on Anzac Day featuring a special exhibition celebrating the centenary of the AFC/RAAF.
The exhibition features Goulburn men and women who served with both the fledgling Australian Flying Corps (AFC), the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and Womens' Australian Auxiliary Air Force (WAAAF).
Also featured is a set of unpublished photographs showing the World War 1 production of British biplanes and an unusual exhibit of fake Royal Flying Corps (RFC) aerial photographs purportedly showing actual combat photos. Published in 1933, the photos were not debunked until 1983 but the story behind their publication is fascinating.
Other exhibits include a series on Australian naval ships with an emphasis on the HMAS Perth and Tobruk and the local men who served on these ships, as well as the roles of RAAF air crew who served over France and Germany in World War 2, again many of these men district locals. Local WAAAF women are also highlighted.
The museum will be open Anzac Day 12-4pm and every Sunday after that date 2-4pm. Members of the public are welcome.
