Goulburn High School captain Lachlan Handley was the guest speaker at the event and laid a wreath on behalf of the school.
"As a 17-year-old living in today's society, it's important our generation never forgets the importance of this day," Lachlan said.
"In order to appreciate the sacrifices that have been made, I'd like to reflect on the privileges that I have and the things I take for granted.
"I am able to wake up in the morning in a free country and have the opportunity to get an education."
Commemorations also took place across the region including Yass, Braidwood, Queanbeyan and Crookwell.
