The news of the closure of two more stores in Goulburn has once again sparked a conversation about what more can be done to retain businesses in the city.

Recently, Rockmans and Strandbags decided to close the doors of their store in Goulburn. Failure to negotiate a new leasing agreement led to this decision for the store, an employee of Rockmans said.
Darrell Weekes, the president of the Goulburn Chamber of Commerce, had said that he is concerned about the closure of these shops and locals losing their jobs due to this.
Meanwhile, a recent audit, undertaken by Goulburn Mulwaree Council, has revealed that the shop vacancy rates in Goulburn have decreased.
The total CBD vacancy in the first quarter of 2021 was 8 per cent. It has decreased from 9.5 per cent in December 2020.
Similarly, the Auburn Street vacancy decreased from 11.4 per cent last year to 10.1 per cent in the first quarter of 2021.

According to the audit, Auburn Street has 18 vacancies, Goulburn Marketplace has one and there were no vacancies in Goulburn Square this year.
In December 2020 audit, there were 20 vacancies on Auburn Street, two in Goulburn Marketplace and one in Goulburn Square.
Total occupancy on the main street increased from 161 in December 2020 to 163 in April 2021.
Meanwhile, after a string of recent closures, a new business is opening on the main street soon.
Retail store Silly Solly's store will open on the main street in the coming months where products under $5 will be sold.
