Goulburn's youth services supervisor applied for the grant earlier this year. The September 17 to 19 event will host youth councils from around the state to discuss issues that affect them.
It will incorporate workshops and a social event and carry the theme 'Come Together, Future through Community.'
Goulburn's Youth Council chose the theme which will focus on renewable energy, technology and how to utilise it for good, the meaning of community and how to develop it in one's area.
The conference will be held at the Veolia Arena, Grace Millsom Centre and Ross Whittaker basketball stadium. Up to 250 people are expected to attend.
Last year Goulburn Mulwaree Council allocated a maximum $25,000 to the conference, which was expected then to cost $59,800. The Youth Council also tipped in $25,000 from its budget. Income was estimated at $48,600.
At the time, Cr Margaret O'Neill was hesitant about the allocation, saying it was a lot of money and ratepayers were "doing it tough."
On Tuesday, she quipped that perhaps the council could have its money back in light of the grant.
The money comes after an unsuccessful application to the state government last year for the conference.
A working party, including Youth Council members, is organising the event.
