The Southern Highlands and Southern Tablelands were among areas significantly impacted by the various blazes.

While charred trees continue to be a reminder of the devastation the recovery can also be noted in various projects across the community.

Some projects provide a permanent reminder of the heartbreak and destruction, some are, hopefully, intended to protect and better prepare the community in the case of future blazes.

Goulburn Mulwaree Council was fortunate enough to receive funding from the NSW government, allowing the bushfire recovery process to become more comfortable.

Help from the Bushfire Community Resilience and Economic Recovery Fund saw $100,000 put towards the Tallong sculpture garden, bushfire commemorative event and Business Resilience Workshops.

The $2 million Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund was put in for Wollondilly River Walkway extension while the Bushfire Community Resilience and Economic Recovery Fund Stream Two of $22,800 was used for external power bollards at Veolia Arena and a single phase power to Peden Pavilion.

Council also received $104,000 through Public Works for road funding split over Oallen Ford, Sandy Point, Cullulla, Lumley and Bungendore Roads.

That was to handle extra trucks for bushfire waste disposal.

On Monday, May 24, it was announced the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment would allow eligible local Landcare groups, environment networks and community groups working on bushfire recovery projects to receive funding of approximately $50,000.

Council are looking into that fund, but no plans have been made for a project application yet.
