Police will focus on alcohol-related violence and anti-social behaviour as part of a proactive high-visibility operation this long weekend.
Officers from the Southern region will conduct Operation Pariac from June 11 through to June 14. General duties officers will be assisted by specialist licencing police to target alcohol-related violence and anti-social behaviour both inside and around licensed premises.
In 2020, Operation Pariac also included a focus on COVID-Safety compliance for both licensees and patrons. As NSW COVID-19 restrictions continue to ease, officers will once again work with venues and licensees to ensure all relevant restrictions are being adhered to and all patrons are able to celebrate in a safe environment.
During the latest deployment of Operation Pariac in December 2020:
Southern Region Commander assistant commissioner Joe Cassar said deployments such as Operation Pariac worked towards maintaining public safety and increasing community confidence.
"Operation Pariac is a high-visibility operation, so expect to see officers circulating popular venues and entertainment precincts from the Illawarra and Shoalhaven, right down to the Victoria border," he said.
"We are expecting a large volume of visitors to head to our alpine regions this long weekend for the official launch of the 2021 snow season, and more officers will be deployed to locations like Jindabyne to curb anti-social behaviour and keep patrons safe.
"Everyone should feel safe to go out and enjoy the local nightlife and not be impacted by those doing the wrong thing.
"Some COVID-19 restrictions remain in place across the state, so we urge those going out to continue to observe social distancing rules and comply with all the relevant venue capacity requirements and QR codes.
"I remind people to look out for your mates while enjoying a night out, know your limits and always have a Plan B to get home, never let a mate get behind the wheel under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
"People who choose to act irresponsibly not only put themselves in harm's way, but those around them - and officers will not tolerate any unlawful behaviour."
Operation Pariac is conducted throughout regional NSW at various times of the year and regular operations will continue to be rolled out.
