On Friday, June 25, NSW Oztag announced its squads for the 2021 NSW City vs Country series, and both Day and Gann were named in the Country Women's 30 side.
The pair have become mainstays in representative Oztag teams in recent years, with a number of state and national call-ups between them.
Despite their experience, Day said she was still thrilled to have been called up for the City vs Country series.
"I never expect to get into rep sides such as City vs Country," she said.
"It's always a privilege to be selected in those sorts of sides."
Gann and Day were two of eight ACT players selected for NSW Country (along with one more named as a shadow). To have so many familiar faces in the squad makes transitioning into the new side easier, Day said.
"Kayla and I started out playing for ACT together and we've gone through all of the rep sides together," she said.
"It's great to go through all that with her ... Six of our teammates got selected, so that always makes it a lot easier walking into a rep side knowing a few of the girls."
The City vs Country matches are scheduled for Saturday, October 9, but will be preceded by the long-delayed Trans Tasman series in New Zealand, which was originally slated for late 2020 but will instead take place this September.
Gann was originally selected for the Tagaroos' Trans Tasman squad when it was announced early 2020. However, once the series was postponed due to COVID-19, she pulled out.
Day currently remains in the squad, but as sporting fixtures currently remain up in the air due to the surge in coronavirus cases in NSW, she simply hopes the competitions will still go ahead.
"We're just hoping that we can play footy in Canberra on the weekend, which is a day-by-day thing," Day said.
"Depending on COVID, hopefully the Trans Tasman goes ahead in September, and then there's City vs Country in October. Hopefully everything goes to plan."
In the meantime, both Gann and Day will look to continue their campaign with the Goulburn Bulldogs' League Tag team, which is currently fourth on the Canberra Raiders Cup ladder.
This Saturday, July 3, the Bulldogs are scheduled to take on the West Belconnen Warriors at Raiders Belconnen from 3pm.
