That's what it felt like when the Crookwell Green Devils and the Boomanulla Raiders battled it out for the inaugural Alfie Walker Cup at the Crookwell Memorial Oval on Saturday, July 10.
Alfie Walker senior, who passed away on April 25, 2019, had played for both teams as well as four games for the Canberra Raiders.
Green Devil's coach Brian Gray said the occasion was very special.
"I wasn't here when Alfie played for the Green Devils, but I grew up here and I think it was a really good concept," Gray said.
The Green Devils raced out to a 20-0 lead before the Raiders got a converted try before half time.
A hard fought scoreless second half, with the home side bearing most of the attack, meant Crookwell took home the trophy designed by Dale Huddleston.
Gray spoke highly of some aspects of his side's performance on a very cold and wet afternoon.
"I was happy with the first 20 minutes of what I saw," he said.
"I was also happy with the 70 minutes of defence.
"I thought we tackled really well which was what we needed to do.
"However, we did lose our way a little in the slippery conditions."
With the ground damp, making the ball tough to handle, Gray knew his side would have to adapt to the conditions.
"We tried to play a few more angles, but our defence was always going to be the key," Gray said.
"We had to roll up our sleeves and work hard in there."
Eight matches in, the Green Devils were winless after six, but have now won two in a row.
"We're still near the bottom, but hopefully we can get a few big scalps on the way home."
Earlier, the Crookwell She Devils took care of the Gunning Rooettes comfortably, winning 38-0.
