The staff and students received a special visit from Youth Liason Officer Senior Constable Ben Fitzgerald, who commended them on their lockdown behaviour.
Saint Joseph's was one of two schools that went into lockdown after an alleged prisoner escaped from Goulburn Jail. Goulburn North Public School was the other school that went into lockdown.
Sergeant Jeff Morgan said officers attended both schools to praise and reassure students.
"The schools did a good job and were straight on it," he said.
"We answered a few questions, and the kids were lovely.
"We had a good response from the kids, and we are thinking of making it a regular thing to talk to primary school kids."
A spokesperson from the Catholic Education Office in Canberra said police arrived at St Joseph's on July 15 at 2:15 pm to alert them of the situation.
"They spoke to the assistant principal. At the time students were on the playground. Students went swiftly back in their classrooms, and the school went into lockdown," he said.
"At 3:10 pm the students were released from lockdown with additional supervision.
"Parents were called to collect their children."
Goulburn North Public School was contacted for comment.
