This review has occurred after I felt 'down' with the Covid 19 restrictions limiting my family contact.
I looked to these 'rules' that I use in my own life to cope.
Rule 1 - 'Be Honest". I admitted my grief at the loss of grandchildren visiting us at our farm. Just talking about my feelings honestly helped.
Rule 2 - 'Like Yourself the Way You Are'. I accepted my feelings.
Rule 3 - 'Avoid Avoiding'. I got out and did jobs that I knew were on my mind.
Rule 4 - 'Fear Nothing'. Why waste time being fearful? We can handle any hassle that comes our way if we want to. Life's trials have done me good. An old saying 'We thrive on adversity'.
Rule 5- 'Give More Than You Get'. Giving to others always gives me a good dose of happiness. I was able to help an elderly man walk down a ramp to the road. Cars all stopped and waves were exchanged. Happiness rose in me.
Rule 6- "Envy No One'. I've learnt so many times that no one has it easy. We all have assets and our job is to see these and not the things others have. We are wealthy when we 'have enough'.
Rule 7- 'Be Thankful'. Living a life 'thanking' and not just 'wanting' gives peace.
Rule 8- 'Judge No One'. This includes not judging ourselves. Accepting everyone as we are gives a lovely peace. Relationships thrive when we feel accepted. I remember one young wife telling me how she will change her new husband. It was a recipe for sadness.
Rule 9- 'Pleasures Don't Bring Happiness'. Thankfully I didn't go for quick pleasures to try and make me feel good.
Rule 10- 'Kids all need a fan club'. I rang my grandchildren, shared love and felt good.
Rule 11 - 'Be self-disciplined'. I did a good clean up and I liked the result.
I looked back and appreciated how much my life habits gave the recipe for happiness.
